Kimberlin Bolton, Operations Manager, holds a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan (’11/Vocal Performance) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College (’09/Music). Bolton, a lyric soprano, sang in the renowned Spelman College Glee Club, and has held the operatic roles of Susanna, (The Marriage of Figaro-Univ.of Michigan ‘09) and Titania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream-Univ. of Michigan ’11).

In 2008, as Operations Manager, The Muddy Water Group, Bolton founded the Muddy Water Rep Program. This 7-city, 25-student program created a mass network for students interested in working in the industry. Alumni of the program have moved on to become very successful artist managers, musicians, production assistants, bloggers and filmmakers. Establishing the Muddy Water Rep Program was instrumental in Kimberlin’s philosophy towards her career. Bolton notes, “My ultimate goal is to make a difference by showing others how impactful they can be.”

Upon graduating from the University of Michigan, she traveled to France to perform with the Franco-American Vocal Academy Theater. There, she toured the southern region of France, in the operatic production of La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein.

Looking for a change of pace, Bolton returned to the United States in August 2011 to accept the role as Personal Assistant to singer Janelle Monáe. As Ms. Monáe’s assistant, she was ultimately responsible for managing the artist’s day-to-day schedule, as well as all communication. Her boundless responsibilities afforded her the opportunity to develop a very extensive resume.

Four years later, Bolton took a leap of faith, resigning from her position and founding Blue Culture LLC, a creative consulting group. Through the agency, she blended her diverse background to create unique marketing strategy, operations management, and increase brand awareness, for her clients.

“We owe it to ourselves to go beyond the familiar and actively pursue dreams. Building something from the inside out requires hard work, determination, and resilience.”
